Small gallery from Fez. Culturally, it didn’t feel appropriate to be swinging the camera everywhere. Once or twice in the souk, we were admonished by locals—“No picture!” But perhaps more than that, I wanted to focus on being present and taking in the stunning visual cityscape directly with my eyes, ears and nose.
Nose especially at the leather tannery seen in the gallery, where our guide handed us sprigs of mint to hold under our noses. Did you know animal hides are treated with ammonia-rich pigeon poo to soften them into leather? True!
